OPHTHALMOLOGY SURGERY CENTER

Dr. Brent During Surgery

Premier Eye Care Group's Ophthalmology Surgery Center started as a freestanding surgery center with Jane Barton, M.D. as the Medical Director. Our center is located on the second floor of the same building as the Premier Eye Care Group Shipoke location in Harrisburg, PA. Construction for the surgery center started in November 1993 and was completed along with the required occupancy and licensure requirements.

Ophthalmology Surgery Center is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. The AAAHC is a private, nonprofit organization formed in 1979 to assist ambulatory health care organizations in improving the quality of care provided to patients. This is done by establishing, reviewing and revising standards, measuring performance and providing consultation and education. AAAHC accreditation means that Ophthalmology Surgery Center participates in ongoing self-evaluation, peer review, and education to continuously improve our care and services. (aaahc.org)

Our center has two operating rooms dedicated to the operative care of ophthalmology as well as a dedicated laser suite that can meet your laser eye care needs.

Treating Glaucoma With Lasers

Nearly three million people in the United States have glaucoma. It is a disease that is caused by pressure in the eye, leading to optic nerve damage. Many times, the loss of vision is gradual. So, many people who have it do not realize it. That’s why it is so important to be tested for glaucoma each year.

Fortunately, glaucoma can be treated. We provide two types of laser glaucoma surgery at our center, and one traditional surgery (trabeculectomy). All surgeries aim to lower the pressure from the eye, preventing further damage to the optic nerve. If you have glaucoma, find out if you are a good candidate for surgery by calling our office.
