Epi-LASIK and LASEK
Epi-LASIK and LASEK are advanced surface ablation procedures used to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. No flap is created with these laser vision correction techniques. The surgeons at Premier Eye Care Group use the excimer laser to perform Epi-LASIK and LASEK; the same excimer laser that is used for LASIK and PRK. The outermost layer of the cornea, the epithelium, is gently moved aside to expose the stroma (the middle, thickest layer of tissue in the cornea). The excimer laser then reshapes the surface of the corneal stroma. The eye surgeon finishes the procedure by replacing the epithelium and covering the eye with a bandage contact lens.
Epi-LASIK and LASEK are similar to PRK in the recovery period which is approximately one week. Epi-LASIK and LASEK may be ideal for treating patients with corneas that are too thin to allow for traditional LASIK.
"It is amazing to actually go to the beach and see my friends and family swimming in the ocean without having to reach for my glasses! I don't have to worry about losing my contacts in the ocean or pool any more. My decision to have LASIK was one of the best things that I have ever done! I didn't have to worry, I knew that Dr. Brent would take care of everything." Dena Manning |
